Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to frequently asked questions

Ziggo Certification

During the night of 13th – 14th June 2017 there will be a large change of channel frequencies. If you have a Ziggo certified television the impact will be very small and your tv set will accept the changes unnoticed.
However the following phenomena may occur:

  • Did you create a Favourites list?
The Favourites refer to the old settings. You will need to recreate your list.
  • You don’t receive any channels?
In that case your television set has not implemented the changes. You therefore need to run a full channel scan in order to re-install all channels.
  • Do certain channels have no or a blocky image?

A number of channels have changed their frequency. If these channels have no or a blocky image, then you might need to check the cables in the house. For this problem you can get in touch with Ziggo via www.ziggo.nl/klantenservice/contact/

For non certified televisions with a digital cable tuner, you need to re- install all the channels at all times.
Salora televisions with Ziggo certification undergo a vast test procedure before being allowed to use the label “Ziggo certified”.

Unfortunately there are, in spite of these strict controls, some Salora models with a software version which is not supported by Ziggo.

DVD players

Media files support
Your product plays the most popular video files, such as AVI and MPEG. Many variations of these files, however, are possible. For example, DivX and Xvid are common variants of the AVI file, but DivX will not play on all devices, as this is a licensed variant. For the broadest support of multimedia files we recommend the use of Xvid for video and MP3 for audio. For image formats up to 24 inches, a resolution of 720 × 405 is sufficient, for larger sizes we recommend increasing the resolution. Most (mostly free downloadable) conversion programs offer pre-programmed options for converting video files with the above mentioned properties.

For the broadest support of video files, we recommend the following parameters:

Format: avi
Video codec: xvid
Audio codec: mp3
Resolution: 720 × 405 for screens up to 24 inch, with larger screens we recommend increasing the resolution

In addition, MP4 is also a very popular format. For support this file must be coded with the MPEG4 variant, the H.264 variant is not supported.

Portable DVD players

Accessories

Buffer memory / Shock Protection

The buffer memory (shock protection) of our portable DVD players is 8 seconds.

DVD does not play back

Not playing a DVD can have various causes, such as:

  • The DVD is damaged
Scratching the DVD can prevent the DVD from being played
  • The lens is dirty
Over time, dust and deposits can prevent the DVD from being played. In that case, use a cleaning DVD to clean the lens.
  • The DVD has the wrong region code
Original DVDs must be of the Region 2 type. This is mentioned both on the cover of the DVD and the print on the DVD itself. Imported DVDs can be from another region; for example, the US has Region 1.
  • The DVD is of low quality
With recordable DVDs (+ or -) the quality can sometimes differ. First try a recordable DVD from another brand.

If your DVD does not play and none of the above applies, you can of course contact us before using the device for repair. bid at your dealer.

Game CD

Some of our portable DVD players come with 2 controllers and a Game CD with ± 250 retro games. An original Game CD can, if necessary (such as in case of damage or loss), be easily ordered via our webshop by clicking here.

The software can also be downloaded from the product pages of the relevant models, namely:

– DVP7048TWIN + GC
– DVP7748DUO + GC
– DVP908TWIN + GC

By clicking on the models above you will be taken to the relevant product page. Then you will find the game-cd.zip file under the DOWNLOADS tab. This file contains a so-called “image” of the original Game CD, which can be copied onto a blank CD with virtually any CD burning program.

For more information about burning “image” files, we advise you to consult the manual of your burning program.

The second screen of my TWIN or DUO system remains blue

If you are in possession of a Salora portable DVD system with 2 screens and when playing a movie, the second screen will remain blue, while you hear sound, the following may have the following causes:

– With the DUO models (such as DVP7748DUO), the second screen with the remote control should be set to AV In. If this is set to AV Out, you will hear sound, but you have no picture.

– The connecting cable must be fully inserted into the connection. This can sometimes go awry.

– If you view files via the USB or SD port, it is possible that the relevant file is bound to licenses. This means that the file is only shown on the main screen and not on the second screen. By putting the player in the settings on NTSC color system, you have a picture on both screens.
